Buffalo Slayer

The Buffalo Slayer is Old West Armory's interpretation on what we feel the buffalo hunters of the 1800's would have supported on their rifles. This design stands out with the use of veg tan leathers and suedes to give it an iconic look.

In 2015 working in North Dakota, the oil market fluctuating and the drilling activity slowing. I had been looking for that one prefect stock wrap for my GBL with no luck. I had an idea from what I dreamed Buffalo hunters would have carried on the high planes of the west.

Seeing that there was a leather store half way between home in Wyoming and work I decided to stop in and take a look. I had learned some leather craft in scouts as a kid so I knew I could do it. Armed with my knowledge from art school and my background with firearms I was confident I could create a functional and appalling design for myself. my first stock wrap turned out perfect for my first. I had posted several pictures of it to a Facebook group and the next thing I knew I was making several more for many people all over the world. I had rediscovered how much I love creating and applying my artistic talents. in 2016 I started Old West Armory officially. The buffalo slayer was still evolving as I was getting better and closer to my original dream for it. it started out very similar yet very different then today. The very first buffalo slayer was made out of a very different leather as I should have known better but learner a lot. when I started using the best leather and blending leather dyes it truly started to take shape. Then when I added applying dye with an airbrush the true beauty of this design took shape.

Typically the body is made from a 6-7 oz veg tan tooling side, its tastefully tooled with a border design. The signature cheek patch is made from a smoked or black suede, some variations of the design is made from veg ten. The cheek patch always branded with the Old West Armory "OWA" brand. The Buffalo Slayer Stitched together with a backstitch that is hand cut from leather.

The buffalo slayer is 100% hand built using a very traditional methods. Every buffalo slayer is custom and no 2 are the same.
